We have a child mental health crisis. The headline on BBC News on 18th July 2019 was: “Child mental health unit referrals” up nearly 50%”. That was a year ago when Dr Bernadka Dubicka, chairwoman of the child and adolescent faculty at the Royal College of Psychiatrists said, “These figures are deeply worrying and build on evidence which shows emotional disorders in children have increased in recent years.”
“Services for children have been historically underfunded meaning they are unable to meet increased demand,” she added.
“The government’s aim to provide mental health support in all schools within the next 10 years will be too little, too late for many children who need that help now.”
Child mental health crisis with Covid-19 pandemic
The last 6 months have seen the full force of the Covid19 pandemic, which has only made the situation worse, as the burden of mental health disorders following viral outbreaks is well documented.
In the light of reduced access to mental health treatment and this burgeoning demand, people are asking for an alternative source of help to turn to.
We have the answer
And we have the answer. We help parents to take responsibility for their own mental health. As the flight attendant says, parents are to fit their oxygen mask first – there is a corollary in parenting.
When parents are empowered to change how they feel about themselves, children subconsciously sense this release of stress and, in response, choose to change their behaviour at home and school, as evidenced in our Canterbury Christ Church University evaluation.
Parents are struggling
In this less than stable environment, where parents are struggling to balance all of the extra demands being made of them, our unique personal development programme stands out as a real, viable solution.
Parents progress through our unconventional and effective program to be the best they can be, being the role model, they aspire to be influencing their children to live their best lives. In addition, we build in sustainability by creating a community of like-minded parents learning and growing together, supporting each other with regular Zoom meetings, teachers are welcome.
